For the final Friday of September I introduced remarkable young woman who has faced and fought so much suicide in her life. She's remarkable. Mason Carlisle is a child sexual abuse survivor, child abuse survivor, she lost her father to an overdose, walked in on her brother's attempt and lost 8 people to suicide. Mason just published a book about PTSD and trauma. It's a fictional ya novel centered around a school shooting survivor. We also discuss how her outlook on this endeavor changed when the most recent school shooting occurred. We talk about trauma, suicide, and our mutual love of and Bruce Willis. I'm going to be speaking locally at a church on what it means to be A Trauma Survivor. On October 12th I'll be speaking live and in person to a full audience at a FREE EVENT here in Denver, Colorado. I'll be talking about the surprising ways that God showed up in my life, and what it means to be more than a former victim of human trafficking, but the challenge of surviving, and then overcoming even the stigma attached to that. Yeah, I'm not even sure how to feel about this right now. It might even be slightly overwhelming at the moment. I've been through so much freaking crap in my life (pardon my coarse language, and feel free to laugh at me for the apology, especially if you've read the above series), and I know there are some really bad people in the world who would love to permanently shut me up, but I still wrote the book anyway. It covers the early childhood trauma and abuse that left me predisposed to being trafficked later on by predators who wormed their way into my life. None of the people who have harmed me have ever come to any sort of legal justice (hence the title of the book) and I know that I'm making myself vulnerable by gaining any sort of notoriety at all, but I am making big moves.
