"When the dog bites,
When the bee stings,
When I'm feeling sad,
I simply remember
My Favourite things,
And then I don't feel so bad."
When the bee stings,
When I'm feeling sad,
I simply remember
My Favourite things,
And then I don't feel so bad."
What child from my own generation doesn't know these words? They've been sung so many times over by so many people, but the one version of the song that stands out in my mind more than any other would be Mary Poppins. It's since been turned into a Christmas song, but that's not how it originally began. If anything, I believe it should be a Thanksgiving song. After all, our favourite things are the things we are the most thankful for, are they not?
Egg nog.
The warmth of a fire place.
Brightly colored packages.
Christmas cards taped to a mirror
The smell of turkey cooking in the oven
Getting to peel the tatties (potatoes) for dinner
Ancient stories of Pilgrims and Indians, wise men and Santa.
Chicken Tikka Masala with Basmati Rice and Garlic Naan.
Lemonade stands in the summer time
A warm heater on a cold day
Audrey Hepburn movies
Ballet and Theater
Children laughing
Snow falling all around
Ice sculptures
The look of nice jewelry in shop windows
A new party dress and matching shoes
Salary raises
The love of a real family
